The Muto Foundation
Guy Muto Memorial Scholarship Fund
Board of Directors Meeting
Minutes: March 10, 2006
The Long Beach meeting of the Muto Foundation Board of Directors took place
on Friday, March 10, 2006. The meeting was called to order at 5:12pm by President,
Bob Fowler. Those present were: President Fowler, Vice President Jerry Mazienis,
Treasurer Bill Storm, Secretary Toni Storm, Guest and Webmaster Paul Grimes,
Director Jon McArthur, and Guest Kent Fisher.
Mr. Storm gave the Treasurer's report. He explained the accounts and activity.
He reported we have $28,457 in a certificate, $1,500 in checking, and $74,509
in Vanguard Mutual Funds. We are current with the State of California and current
tax wise with the Federal Government with our 503-C. He asked that the Board
members become current with their annual dues which amount to $120 annually,
which is $10 per month. Those dues are now payable and may be mailed to our
PO Box 60159, Sacramento, CA 95860.
Our guest, Kent Fisher led a discussion about getting the word out to the Pool
industry and asking for donations to help our fund grow. A brainstorming session
occurred concerning fund raising. Mr. Storm explained why our scholarships
are not made out to the student and their school. The reason is if the student
is receiving a Pell Grant as well as ours, the Muto check would be deducted
from the amount of the Pell.
After Mr. Fisher agreed to lead some fund raising efforts, Jon McArthur motioned
that he become a Board member. Mr. Storm seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Because of all of the efforts of Mr. Grimes in redoing our website and maintaining
it so well, Mr. Storm moved that Paul Grimes become a member of the Board.
Mr. Mazienis seconded the motion. That motion passed unanimously.
Vice President Mazienis asked permission from the leaders of the Western Pool & Spa
Show, Cal Terry and Vicki Lester, to distribute a Muto bulletin with a roster
of last year's award winners. Permission was granted. President Fowler volunteered
to get prints of our bulletin to hand out at the show the next day. It was
decided that donating companies could name their own scholarship through our
Foundation. Mr Grimes suggested we have a thank you section on the website
for former contributors. We will establish levels of contributions.
After a discussion it was decided that our annual meeting would take place
at the Western Pool & Spa Show, which is usually in Long Beach, CA. Supplementary
information will be distributed throughout the year to Board members via e-mail.
A motion was made by Mr. Mazienis and seconded by Mr. McArthur that Larry Herr
be removed from the Board because of his inactivity and not attending meetings.
The motion passed unanimously.
Since most of the Board members attend the Pool Industry Expo in Monterey in
October, it was suggested that we schedule a Board meeting at that time.
At 6:50pm Mr. Storm moved and Mr. Mazienis seconded that the meeting be adjourned.
The vote was unanimous and the meeting was adjourned.
